COMMISSIONER of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says they will bring additional manpower from the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), if the need arises, to assist them with maintaining security during the 2018 General Election.
Speaking to the media in Suva, he said there wasn’t any need to bring them in now.
“I understand the standby agreement that they have and if the need arises then I will call them, but at the moment we are happy with the way we are positioned.
“We are confident that we will deliver that conducive for Fijians to choose their Government,” Brigadier General Qiliho said.
Earlier today, Brig Gen Qiliho had issued a statement claiming that there were rumours circulating of rogue groups working towards disrupting the voting process on
Election Day and the post-election period if results are not favourable.
He said they have had exchanges of information and intelligence with the RFMF.
“All Fijians should be rest assured that we are working with, and have the full support of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and are closely monitoring the security landscape, and their officers are ready to be deployed at any time to assist us if there is information of unrest that could impact the Election process.”
