POLICE have confirmed that investigations into two former Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) officers linked to the alleged disclosure of confidential internal FICAC information to Charlie Charters are continuing.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Loraini Seru told The Fiji Times: “The investigation into the other two continues.”
The matter was referred to Police by FICAC under section 13F of the FICAC Act following allegations concerning the disclosure of official information.
On June 30, FICAC said any decision on whether former FICAC officers would face charges would rest with Police.
The update comes after the High Court permanently stayed the criminal proceedings against citizen journalist Charlie Charters.
In its ruling, the High Court stayed the charges against Mr Charters because of issues relating to the State’s case and FICAC’s conduct in bringing the proceedings.
The two FICAC officers in question were accused of divulging internal information to Mr Charters without written authorisation, violating Section 13G (1) of the FICAC Act.
Police did not provide further details, with no charges announced at this stage.
