A MASSIVE turnout in Lautoka marked a powerful start to this year’s Pinktober campaign, signalling a strong shift towards early health action across local communities.
Fiji Cancer Society research assistant Makereta Leweniqila expressed deep appreciation for the public support, stating that the crowd exceeded all initial expectations for the five-kilometre walk.
“We’re really thankful for the numbers that came out, for the support that we received this year compared with last year,”she said.
Ms Leweniqila highlighted the critical message behind the gathering, emphasising that the primary focus goes beyond simple advocacy to inspire real lifestyle changes and proactive health management.
“It’s important that we launch this event as it brings awareness into cancer, awareness into action,” she said.
“That’s the theme that we’re driving for this year, bringing awareness into action.”
Ms Leweniqila explained that equipping individuals with essential information remained central to their mission.
“Not only are we advocating for cancer, but we would like to empower them with the knowledge to start taking action for their health
“What’s so different about this year is because we’re collaborating with Aspen Medical – bringing the hospital, the medical team to our community here in the West.”
