Lautoka Golf Club vice-captain Suren Pillay maintained his steady form to take out the Chinese Palace Restaurant-sponsored 18 holes Western Open Golf Championship at the Golf Links on Saturday.
To celebrate the Chinese New Year, Pillay recorded a 3 under par 66 to take out the overall gross title.
Newcomer, Vikash Chand, playing in only his third tournament, walked away with the overall nett title on a fine 64.
Bobby Reddy played consistently to win the A- grade title on 67, followed by national rep Roneel Prakash on 68 and elite squad member Rohit Chandra on 70 to finish second and third respectively.
Veteran Gaffar Ali registered his first title in the B- grade on 67.
Chandar Shekar, on 68, edged regular Abinesh Goundar who scored 69.
Consistent Fiji Airways captain Bill Gardiner fought tooth and nail to edge club president and sponsor — Chong Lee on a count-back to grab the C-grade title.
The duo recorded 67. Evergreen Ishaque Ali on 69 had to settle for 3rd spot.
Drasa Avenue School student Shakil Pillay produced a scintillating round of golf for a fantastic nett 59 to win the juniors title and at the same time registering the best score of the new year.
Steven Leger also tasted his top competitive golf to be content with a second place finish on 75.
The Golf Cart super 9 holes competition was won by former Lautoka Football Association president Shalendra Prasad on 34, followed by Sydney-based duo Dennis Singh and Nitya Nand on 36.
Dr Ganesh Chand took out the “Strike it Lucky” year of the Rooster prize on 40.
Dinesh Chand grabbed NTP on the second hole with Anil Prasad on the nineth.
Roneel Prakash hit the longest drive on the third hole. Club chairman of trustees Raymond Singh thanked sponsor Chong Lee for the many fabulous prizes and the after match cocktail function with fine foods and drinks.
