The People First Party has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media that its official launch was tainted by corruption, describing the claims as false, malicious and aimed at damaging the party’s reputation.
In a statement posted on its official social media platforms, the party said allegations circulated on social media and other platforms were “baseless” and intended to undermine the integrity of the newly formed political movement.
“These assertions are not only untrue but are a deliberate attempt to undermine the integrity and foundational principles of our nascent political movement,” said the party,
The party also rejected claims that individuals making the allegations had any authority within the organisation, saying they were not members of its Board of Governors.
“The individuals propagating these false narratives are in no way affiliated with or members of the People First Party’s Board of Governors. The Board of Governors is the sole authoritative body responsible for all strategic decisions, including the planning and execution of the party’s official launch.”
Addressing questions over the funding of its launch at Korovuto College, the party said the event was financed entirely through contributions from members of its Board of Governors.
“The launch event held at Korovuto College was made possible through the monthly financial contributions of our dedicated Board of Governors. These contributions were made with full transparency and in adherence to all relevant regulations, demonstrating our commitment to ethical practices from the outset.”
The party said transparency, accountability and integrity remained central to its operations and condemned what it described as attempts to spread misinformation.
“People First Party stands for transparency, accountability, and integrity. We condemn any attempts to spread misinformation and assure the public that our operations are conducted with the highest standards of ethical conduct.”
The party urged the public to rely on its official communication channels for accurate information and disregard what it described as malicious claims.
“We urge the public to disregard these malicious and unfounded claims, which are designed to sow discord and distrust. The People First Party remains steadfast in its mission to serve the Fijian people with honesty and dedication.”
The allegations referred to by the party have not been independently verified. The statement represents the People First Party’s response to claims circulating on social media.
