THE People First Party announced its 15 provisional candidate list yesterday at Korovuto in Nadi ahead of the general election.
The provisional lineup includes Kalesi Toga, Sitiveni Weleilakeba, Ashley Amrita Singh, Arisi Tabuasei, Luisa Vusonimasei, Mohammed Saiyaz Khan, Apakuki Nalaukai, Sushila Rameshwar, Ravina Lata, Jasmine Lal, Ashneel Sudhakar, Ali Sheikh, Adi Laisa Tora, and Hazrat Ali.
Addressing supporters, party leader Inia Seruiratu expressed gratitude for the ongoing backing from the community and acknowledged the pressing national concerns facing citizens.
“We do not have a party manifesto as we speak because we first need to consult and hear you,” he said.
“We are people first, your choices and proposals are important in the formulation of our party manifesto.”
Party president Joana Koroilavesau emphasized that the movement’s foundation was rooted in grassroots representation rather than personal ambition.
“We were not driven by power, position or privilege. We were driven by a simple conviction,” she said.
“With the voice of every day, teachers deserve to be heard, respected and represented. We have welcomed people from every corner of life, every community, every faith and every background.”
In addition to the provisional group, the party confirmed its board of governors lineup. The confirmed candidates running for the general election are Joseph Nand, Virendra Lal, Hem Chand, Vijay Nath, Semi Koroilavesau, Alvick Maharaj, Rinesh Sharma, and Parveen Bala Kumar.
Mr Seruiratu confirmed provisional candidates will still complete formal vetting procedures.
