TWO of Fiji’s secondary schools rugby league giants clash today in the race to the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League Association’s Vodafone Trophy.
Nasinu Secondary School under-19 rugby league team, the Nasinu Panthers, hopes to beat QVS Knights in their national semi-final match at the ANZ Stadium to reach the final.
Nasinu is the champion and holder of the Colin Love Trophy.
They have kept the title for the fifth year and whoever wins will keep the trophy forever.
The Colin Love trophy which has been in contention since the tournament’s conception will be challenged for the last time today.
It will be replaced by a new trophy.
“We are a few steps away, but we must tackle the obstacle that is in front of us this weekend,” said Nasinu team manager Isikeli Kalouniviti.
“We respect QVS, but that will not delay us from the task ahead which is to take the Colin Love Trophy back with us to Nasinu where it should remain. Nasinu will also feature teams in the U15 and U17 semi-finals against QVS Knights and Marist Storm respectively.
“The players are raring to play. There are no injuries and morale is high. We look forward to end the season on a high note.”
The FSSRL national semi-finals was to begin at 11am. Grandstand tickets $10, embankment $5, students in uniform $2.
