AFTER 11 years of waiting, the people of Bua Lomanikoro and Naikavaki are celebrating the opening of a new hanging bridge that will provide a safer and more reliable link between the two communities.
Tui Bua Ratu Makutu Nagagavoka said the completion of the bridge marked the end of more than a decade of anticipation.
“After 11 years, our prayers have been answered,” he said.
Ratu Makutu said the first hanging bridge in the area was built in 1964, while a second one was later constructed at the same site where the new crossing now stands.
“During that 11 years, we thought our prayers had not been heard,” he said.
He said the new bridge would significantly improve access between the two villages, making travel safer and easier for villagers use the crossing daily.
Ratu Makutu also acknowledged the Government’s support in delivering the project, describing the bridge as an important infrastructure that would benefit current and future generations in Bua.
