DEPUTY Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica says he returns to Cabinet with “nothing to prove”, but with a focus on continuing the economic work he began before spending 10 months outside the executive.
Speaking on The Fiji Times online portal The Lens@177, Mr Kamikamica said he remained active during his time outside Cabinet, engaging with investors, micro, small, and medium enterprise operators, and cooperatives.
“In fact, whilst being outside Cabinet, I’ve actually been actively trying to help some outside Cabinet,” he said.
He also chaired the Public Accounts Committee, which he said had done important work in identifying and reporting issues to Government.
Mr Kamikamica said he maintained an open line of communication with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka throughout his absence, with the PM reaching out to him on various matters.
“He now and again reached out on various things, so that relationship and communication was always open,” he said.
Mr Kamikamica said Government had continued to function during his absence and managed several challenges and crises.
Now back in Cabinet, Mr Kamikamica said his priority was to continue the economic work already underway, rather than prove himself.
“So, not so much anything to prove, but really just continuing where we had left off.”
His focus includes diversifying Fiji’s economy, improving the ease of doing business, and removing constraints affecting businesses.
