Northland Tailevu secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Rewa in the Extra under-16 Youth League 2025 competition, which took place at the Fiji FA grounds in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

The match was intense from the start, with both teams scoring a goal each in the first half to make it 1-1 going into halftime.

The second half saw both teams battling it out, with neither side able to break the deadlock.

It wasn’t until the dying minutes of the game that Northland Tailevu managed to score a crucial goal, securing the win in the process.

Head coach Melvin Singh expressed his gratitude for the win, attributing it to the team’s resilience and commitment.

Despite facing challenges such as unfavorable weather conditions and players being preoccupied with exams, the team managed to come together and execute a game-winning play.

“I like to thank God for the win today, and also for the strength to get this win,” said Singh.

“On half time it was 1-1, so my message to the boys was to stick of the game plan and work as a team, scoring the goal on the second half in the last minute was a great move and I’m happy for the boys.”

Singh commended his players for sticking to the game plan and working as a cohesive unit throughout the match.

He acknowledged that there are areas that need improvement, particularly in the team’s defense and offensive strategies, and pledged to address these in future training sessions.

Despite facing a formidable opponent in Rewa, Singh was pleased with his team’s performance and determination to clinch the victory.

He praised his players for their effort and resilience in the face of adversity, highlighting the significance of the win for the team’s morale and confidence moving forward.
