The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi is maintaining a flash flood warning for several low-lying and flood-prone areas across Vanua Levu.

The warning remains in place for communities in Labasa, Wailevu, Vunivesi, Savusavu, Bucaisau, Drawa, Nabalebale, Nakorotari, Nasekula, Batiri, Seaqaqa, Wainunu, Nasekawa and Taveuni.

A flash flood alert is also still active for the rest of the Fiji group.

According to the centre, an active trough of low pressure continues to sit over the country, bringing prolonged periods of rain, showers and thunderstorms. The system is expected to persist until Thursday, increasing the risk of sudden flooding.

Authorities warn that isolated heavy rain could result in rapid rises in water levels in drains, small streams and low-water bridges. Irish crossings, roads and properties in low-lying communities may also become inundated.

The public is urged to remain vigilant, avoid flooded areas and stay updated with the latest weather bulletins as conditions continue to evolve.
