A DEDICATED Counter-Terrorism Strategic Coordination Unit will lead Fiji’s national response to terrorism under the National Counter-Terrorism Strategy 2026–2030.
The Counter-Terrorism Strategic Coordination Unit (CTSCU), within the Ministry of Policing and Communications, will be responsible for coordinating counter-terrorism efforts across Government.
The unit will chair the National Counter-Terrorism Working Group (NCTWG) and oversee implementation of the annual National Counter-Terrorism Action Plan (NCTAP).
The strategy, launched in Suva on Friday, stated that the NCTAP will be developed after Cabinet approves the strategy and will provide the baseline targets for monitoring and evaluating its implementation.
The approach brought together a broad range of Government agencies, security institutions and critical national organisations.
The NCTWG will include the Ministry of Policing and Communications, Fiji Police Force, Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Fiji Corrections Service, Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Immigration, Justice, Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Health and Medical Services, Finance, Education and iTaukei Affairs.
It will also include the Office of the Prime Minister, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Solicitor General’s Office, Financial Intelligence Unit, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and INTERPOL.
Other agencies listed were the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji, Fiji Airports, Fiji Ports Corporation, Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji, Biosecurity Authority of Fiji, National Fire Authority, Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources.
The strategy effectively placed the CTSCU at the centre of Fiji’s national counter-terrorism coordination and monitoring framework.
