Solomon Islands Prime Minister Matthew Wale will be accorded a traditional Fijian welcome ceremony at 8am today as the Government of Fiji formally marks his first official visit to the country as Prime Minister.

The ceremony will be held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, where Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will lead the Fiji delegation in welcoming his Solomon Islands counterpart.

The Government has elevated Prime Minister Wale’s visit to an official visit in recognition of his role as Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF).

Prime Minister Wale arrived in Fiji last night and was welcomed with a 50-member Guard of Honour.

Following the traditional ceremony, Prime Minister Wale will pay a courtesy call on President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu at the State House before holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister Rabuka.

Prime Minister Wale is in Fiji to attend the Pacific Islands Forum Troika Meeting, which began on Tuesday.

He is expected to conclude his visit and return to Honiara on Friday, 3 July 2026.
