AGRICULTURE, Waterways and Sugar Minister Tomasi Tunabuna last week launched a revolutionary suite of digital tools aimed at transforming Fiji’s agricultural sector.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Sugar Cane Growers Fund’s Document Management System, chatbot1E, and GEDSI framework, Mr Tunabuna stressed that the initiative represents a fundamental shift in institutional governance and service delivery.
“This is not simply another computer system, it is about the future of our policy, and it is about improving the way it’s governed and our institutions, serving our people and our community,” he said.
The new digital platform is designed to modernise operations, streamline administrative processes, and bring essential services closer to everyday farmers. By moving away from traditional paper-based methods, the initiative aims to reduce travel times and bureaucratic hurdles for growers operating in remote areas.
Mr Tunabuna said technology should ultimately enhance human services rather than replace them, make information and services faster, more accessible and user-friendly for all generations.
The integration of a gender equality, disability, and social inclusion framework ensures that marginalised groups, particularly women who comprise a significant portion of the agricultural workforce, are actively supported and empowered to contribute to the sector’s growth.
