NAVUA FC Coach Rodeck Singh wants the side to turn around its inconsistent league form before they begin their Battle of the Giants (BOG) campaign.
Navua FC finished eighth in the Extra Premier League, with Singh admitting that their inconsistent form has been a concern throughout the season.
“We are not consistent, we win, we lose, we draw. In that form, we cannot take it to the tournament. We need to be winning and continuously winning to see ourselves progress,” Singh said.
Singh believes the BOG will provide a different challenge, with Navua drawn in a pool he describes as tricky and competitive.
“You cannot underestimate any team in that pool. It’s going to be tough for the competition. Every team has been improving,” he said.
He pointed to Nasinu’s league performance as an indication of the quality Navua will face, saying his players must be ready to produce top-quality football if they are to progress from the pool.
Navua still have one league match against Nasinu before turning their attention fully to the BOG.
Singh said the team’s expectation remains the same, to improve on its previous BOG performance and push all the way to the final.
“We are preparing, but we have one league game left with Nasinu that we are concentrating on. And then after that we shift focus to BOG,” he said.
Singh is also calling on Navua supporters and the business community to rally behind the team during its preparations and throughout the tournament.
He believes strong support from the fans could provide the players with an added boost as they look to overcome their league inconsistency and make a deeper run in the BOG.
