Setting foot in a new place can be intimidating, especially for young people.
Dimitri Natonga is a Ni-Vanuatu student at the University of the South Pacific (USP).
He was among the many first-year and continuing students who toured USP’s Laucala Campus yesterday.
Mr Natonga joined USP after being admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Mathematics program at USP’s Emalus Campus in Vanuatu.
He said he arrived in Fiji last Tuesday, with over 50 other new and continuing students from Vanuatu.
He said it was his first time in Fiji and the first of the few years studying at the Laucala Campus in Suva.
Not only a new place geographically, but as his new home and where he will further his education, Mr Natonga toured the campus as he wanted to identify the key locations on campus.
He also said he wanted to know particularly where his lecture and tutorial classrooms were before classes commenced next Monday.
“I made it my business to attend the orientation program because I am new to the Laucala Campus,” he said.
Mr Natonga said first-year students should participate and be part of the orientation week program to ensure they had a smooth start to a new semester and academic year.
“I am satisfied with how the team assisted us, and now I am getting to know the surroundings, science laboratories and the lecture as well as the tutorial buildings.”
