THE second National Climate Outlook Forum began today at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi where stakeholders from the public and private sector gathered to discuss and share their experiences on climate information.

While opening the three-day meeting, Ministry of Infrastructure Transport Disaster Management and Meteorological Services deputy secretary George Tavo said the National Climate Outlook Forum (NCOF) served as a national platform for regular dialogue among stakeholders seeking improved societal outcomes associated with natural hazards, climate variability, extremes and change.

“NCOF is an essential mechanism for promoting inter-agency coordination and regular multi-stakeholder dialogue between information providers and users at the national level,” Mr Tavo said.

“Similarly, it provides effective mechanism for national implementation of both the User Interface Platform (UIP) and Capacity Development pillars of the Global Framework for Climate Services.”

Organised by the Fiji Meteorological Services, the National Climate Outlook Forum is funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pacific under its Regional Disaster Resilience in the Pacific Small Island Development States (RESPAC) program.
