Nand’s golf dream

AMONG the experienced golfers who frequent the manicured lawns of the Fiji Golf Club in Suva, is a 16-year-old boy whose appearance there might spark curiosity in some and cast a ray of hope in his fellow golf mates.

Enter Aarav Nand. He’s a year 11 student at Jai Narayan College and while he may have other interests or hobbies to occupy his time with, golf, meanwhile, is high on that list.

At Jai Narayan on Rewa St, he studies English, Mathematics, Accounting, Economics and Computer Studies.

Nand says he comes from a long line of family members who have played the sport such as his grandfather.

Continuing that in this time and age of digital advancement and the ever-growing desire to unwind and unplug from the world was not just second nature to Nand, it was intuition.

He is part of a growing number of young golfers taking up the sport in a time when its demographic is limited to senior citizens and middle-aged persons, however, in breaking that notion one swing at a time, Nand is also focused on making a name for himself.

He first played golf two years ago in 2024 and some of the golfers he has a high regard for are world-ranked amateur golfer and friend Shakeel Pillay, highly-ranked female golfer Raina Kumar and New Zealand golfer Rajat Rai.
