Naidrodro from Ba took out the Marist Eastgate Memorial Tournament men’s title at Nadovu Park in Lautoka yesterday. They beat Stingers from Suva in penalty shootout 3–2.

Marist Hearts won the women’s title.

They defeated Ventures 2– nil in the final. Marist Hockey Club executive Sean Patrick said they had to shift the tournament to the Western Division because the turf in Suva was being renovated.

He said for the past two years the tournament wasn’t held because of the COVID-19 restrictions. Patrick said they had seven men’s and five women’s teams in the competition.

“We had two pools for the men and a round-robin competition for the women,” he said.

“We had teams from Suva, Lautoka and Ba.

“We did not have any sponsors for the tournament this year but the best placed teams received some prizemoney.

“Most of the national reps participated in the tournament as they prepare for the Pacific Games next year. The likes of Hector Smith Jr, Leevan Dutta, Jerome Edwards, Alsace Smith, Fabiano Rupeni.”

The tournament served as a build up for the Pacific Games which will be held in the Solomon Island next year.
