THE McDonald’s Nadi women’s team made a powerful statement in the second round of the Subrails Marama Cup Championship, thrashing Khelvin Civil Engineering Lautoka Maroons 89-12 at Churchill Park Ground Three in Lautoka on Saturday.
Head coach Timaima Ravisa was pleased with the performance but said there was still room for improvement as the side continues its campaign.
Ravisa said the team built on its defensive work from last week’s match against Kadavu, with defence remaining a major priority heading into the Lautoka clash.
“Our game today, we just picked up from our last game against Kadavu last week. Mainly focusing on our defence, it was my main priority,” Ravisa said.
She praised her players for maintaining their intensity until the final whistle and executing their attacking plans effectively.
“Our attack is just to attack the space, and I bet the girls showed that to me, especially working as a team to be able to score the tries,” she said.
Ravisa said the message to the players before the match and half-time was simple — play with purpose, showcase their talent and give their best.
Despite the comprehensive victory, she acknowledged there were areas the team needed to improve.
“There’s a lot of positive but a lot of walk-ons too in today’s game. So, from here we will build towards next week on our next game against Suva,” she said.
Ravisa also thanked God, her players, sponsors, executives, the union and the families and supporters who continued to back the team.
