NADI is aiming to maintain its dominance in the 2026 Fiji Primary Schools Tuckers Ice Cream Games, with new talent emerging at the Nadi Primary Schools Athletics Competition at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

Nadi Primary Schools Athletics Association vice-president Jeremaia Tuwai said 20 schools participated in this year’s competition, including four new schools that did not compete last year.

Tuwai said the competition had provided an opportunity to identify emerging athletes who could strengthen the Nadi team ahead of the primary schools athletics finals.

“We have seen some of the schools that have not been participating in the last couple of years come back this year,” Tuwai said.

“We have unearthed some new talent that we hope to utilise in our preparation for the finals.”

Nadi is determined to defend its girls’ title, which Tuwai said the district had won for three consecutive years.

He was also confident the district could challenge for the boys’ title, with the overall standings determined by combining the results of both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.

“When we put the table together, the overall should be boys and girls combined,” he said.

“I believe we have done well with the girls, and combined with the boys, I think we have been the overall winners in the last couple of years.”

However, Tuwai said the competition had faced a change of venue, with the zone meet previously held in Lautoka.

He said the condition of the tracks in Lautoka had prompted organisers to move the competition to Prince Charles Park.
