The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has intercepted approximately five kilograms of methamphetamine at Nadi International Airport.

A man from Hungary has been charged in relation to the incident and was produced in the Nadi Magistrates Court on Monday.

FRCS confirmed the detection was the result of coordinated risk profiling, intelligence-led targeting, and thorough examination processes carried out by its officers.

Authorities revealed the drugs were concealed using sophisticated methods designed to evade detection.

FRCS Chief Executive Officer Udit Singh said the interception highlights the critical role Customs plays beyond revenue collection.

“This detection is a clear demonstration of FRCS’s operational readiness, capability, and commitment to protecting Fiji and the wider Pacific region from the devastating impacts of illicit drugs. Every interception of this scale prevents harmful substances from reaching our communities and saves countless lives,” he said.

Mr Singh also acknowledged the importance of strong collaboration within FRCS and with partner agencies, noting that such partnerships are vital to maintaining border security while facilitating legitimate trade and travel.

FRCS says it remains committed to strengthening its operational capabilities and intelligence frameworks to respond to evolving threats, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
