Member of Parliament Sanjay Kirpal and another man accused of assaulting a man on August 9 have been granted bail.
Mr Kirpal and Anal Avinash Ram appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne for the first time this afternoon, charged with one count of assault.
The pair are alleged to have assaulted the complainant following an argument at Kirpal’s home.
Their lawyer, Mukesh Nand, told the court that both accused were willing to reconcile with the complainant.
The court heard that the accused and the complainant do not have a domestic relationship.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Shailend Prasad, when asked by the magistrate whether the complainant was also willing to reconcile, said he could not confirm this at the moment.
Magistrate Somaratne directed Sergeant Prasad to confirm with the complainant whether he was willing to reconcile.
The magistrate said if there was no reconciliation, the accused would have their pleas recorded on the next court date.
The case was adjourned to August 28.
