The Motibhai Group has a long history of charity work that spans over a period of about 85 years.
Over the years the company has made numerous donations in various fields. Up until today the company’s goodwill work has reached many sectors including education, health and providing relief to those affected by natural disasters.
Education In the ’50s, the group was one of the first donors towards the establishment of Xavier College and later on also to AD Patel College.
Both schools have a high academic reputations. Motibhai Group also played an active role in the establishment of Tagore Memorial School.
In 1968, they opened their supermarket in Ba and sponsored a student from Ba for a full degree course at the University of the South Pacific (USP) when Dr Colin Aickman was Vice-Chancellor. That’s not all.
Their longstanding association with Dilkusha Girls Home has been in operation for the past 20 years. A report published by The Fiji Times in March 2016 stated that Motibhai Group also made donations to Dilkusha Girls Home and also to the Fiji Crippled Society – Hilton School.
The latest donation to Nadi Centre for Special Education (Special School) and the three orphanage homes – Treasure House Christian Children’s Home, Loloma Home and Care Centre and St. Mina Children’s Home – is in line with our company’s commitment to assist the less unfortunate.
The group is well aware of its responsibility in society to meet these obligations. The report stated that the original founders of Motibhai Group in the ’50s built a fully fledged high school in their village in India in the name of their father and this high school is fully operational to this day.
“We have from time to time awarded scholarships to students in outlying islands,” it reported.
Health The company had a longstanding association with the Fiji Cancer Society. This is evident through their iconic ‘Bushells Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea’ initiative, which has raised thousands of dollars to assist in the fight against cancer.
The company continues to have an ongoing association with FCS and their commitment to the Fiji National Diabetes Foundation has been from the inception days of the foundation.
“And we were the initial contributors to the founding of the centre and our former chairman served as chair of the foundation for 27 consecutive years with distinction,” it reported.
Relief efforts In recent times, the company has stepped up to the call from Government to assist in providing assistance to the worst affected in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
They had contributed to every cyclone relief effort organised by Government and has enabled its international suppliers to contribute to the fundraiser.
In 2016, the Motibhai Group donated $50,000 worth of emergency food and household items to the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) to assist Fijians who were affected during TC Winston.
They also contributed open-heartedly to assist the Foundation for Rural and Integrated Enterprises and Development (FRIEND) who have been very active relief agents on the ground during natural disasters, particularly in the greater Western Division.
The company had been grounded on the philosophy that “by giving one does not become poor, but we are happy to sow in the same manner as a bird takes a beak full of water from the flowing river, the river does not dry up, but rather keeps flowing”.
