THE High Court has given the Attorney-General’s Office more time to personally serve contempt of court proceedings on Feroz Gulam Mohammed, who is overseas.
The matter was called before Justices Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull, Dane Tuiqereqere and Savenaca Banuve recently, when deputy State solicitor Ofa Solimailagi told the court that efforts had been made to establish Mr Mohammed’s address in New Zealand and Canada.
The Attorney-General initiated contempt of court proceedings against Mr Mohammed over alleged scandalous comments he made about Chief Justice Salesi Temo in a video posted on Facebook. The High Court is sitting as a three-member panel to hear the contempt of court charge.
Ms Solimailagi told the court that she had been told Mr Mohammed has an address in Auckland but is currently in Canada attending a family wedding.
She presented three options to the court — personal service, substituted service or wait for Mr Mohammed’s return to Fiji. The court indicated it was inclined to give more time for Mr Mohammed to return to Fiji and allow an opportunity for his legal representation to be properly established.
The matter is adjourned to September 21 for hearing.
