Ministry rectifying teachers’ issues: Bure

AN apologetic Education Ministry deputy permanent secretary Timoci Bure assured teachers at the Fiji Principals Association Conference that the ministry was looking into rectifying issues affecting their jobs.

Questions raised by the principals during the conference were in regards to: confirmed positions that were later downgraded; the procedure to confirm posts for school heads; and the procedure to terminate and suspend teachers.

Mr Bure said he was aware of the issues and the ministry was working to rectify them.

“I wish to apologise again for all issues that you have with you. I understand because when I move to schools the issues come,” Mr Bure said.

He told the principals that it would take some time to resolve the issues, but assured them that the ministry was addressing them.

Mr Bure also encouraged the principals to keep up the good work and to also monitor the performance of their staff.

The conference, which was held at the Novotel Suva Lami Bay Convention Centre, ended yesterday.
