Nadroga Arya College defeated Tavua College 1-0 in the opening round of the Digicel Fiji Secondary Schools Football Association Inter District Championship at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

Joana Mata proved to be the star scoring winner in the first half.

Nadroga Arya College coach Ranbhir Singh said they made a bright start in the tournament.

He said their girls did well especially after the tournament started after two years.

“This victory is for the school, the parents, supporters and teachers,” Singh said.

“The importance is to develop women’s football.

“The question is why boys are always given a privilege because girls are eager to play also.

“The girls have the skills and play a very good game. So we have to give them equal rights.”
