Well done

MY heartfelt congratulations go to the goldminers for registering a back to back victory in the Vodafone Premier League.

Only a week ago, the Capital City boys had no answer to the onslaught of the men in gold.

At the weekend it was Rewa who went down to the Tavua outfit.

Indeed, this is a very promising result for a team which gets little or no sponsorship such as other districts in Fiji.

At this juncture, I would like to thank all those who have stood firmly behind the team irrespective of the weather condition.

Their hard work and dedication is slowly giving them the dividends.

Except for the CVC, I think Tavua has won all the other major tournaments fought locally.

While Suva and Rewa lick their wounds, other districts must be thinking of ways to overcome this revamped team from the gold mining town of Tavua.

Such solid performance no doubt helps a district to generate a better gate takings.

Well done Tavua.

Soccer upsets

GIANT-KILLERS Nasinu and Tavua surprised many as they thumped Labasa and Rewa 2-0 respectively.

Surprisingly, Tavua is second on the VPL points table with six points after recording two wins and a loss.

On the other hand, Labasa fans left disappointed after witnessing their side go down to an aggressive and much hungrier Nathan Shivam-coached Nasinu pack while Ba outclassed Suva through Saula Waqa’s screamer.

After losing to Lautoka 6-0, Tavua coach Nazeel had requested for patience and I can see the fruits of his hard work coming in the form of two scintillating wins.

Meanwhile, it’s back to the drawing board for the Lions and I’m sure our boys have learnt valuable lessons after the loss to Nasinu and will come back better prepared.

As I conclude, I congratulate Lautoka for the well-deserved 5-0 win against Morobe Wawens and I wish the Blues all the best for their O-League matches against Henderson Eels and AS Central.

Incomplete schools

IT is indeed sad to read about the incomplete schools on Koro Island.

After Winston, I believe there was a lot of talk of rehabilitation work and building resilient infrastructures.

Seems like it’s a whole lot of talk but little action.

Did the relevant government ministries oversee this project?

If not, Government should start taking ownership.

We saw in the construction of Queen Victoria School the poor workmanship.

What of other sponsored infrastructures?

The way things are turning out with rehabilitation works after Winston, I believe it’s another major catastrophe in waiting.

Lampposts on highway

I AM writing to express my concern regarding the lampposts that have been put up along the Kings Highway, beginning from Barotu Village to Naiserelagi.

I believe the lampposts have only been put in Barotu Village, the convenience shop, and Barotu Primary School.

My concern is that from the next village onwards to Naiserelagi, there are no lampposts.

Between these areas are Tokio Village, Ra Maternity Hospital, and two sister schools namely St Francis College and Navunibitu Catholic School.

People from the nearby community frequently walk along these areas.

They take their children to school at night for study and if there’s an emergency, residents walk to the Ra Maternity Hospital to be treated.

My point is if the previous village and schools have lampposts along the road, why can’t the same be done in the next community area.

I hope those in authority be made aware of this and take some action in installing lampposts along our roadside.

Congratulations Ratu Epeli

RATU Epeli Nailatikau being Speaker of the House of Representatives was no surprise.

With a career that speaks volumes and his chiefly status, I had no doubt Ratu Epeli was the best choice.

Brigadier-General Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, CF, LVO, OBE, MSD, KStJ , (born July 5, 1941), (often referred to as Na Turaga Mai Naisogolaca) is a Fijian chief who was President of Fiji from 2009 to 2015.

He has had a long career in the military, diplomatic service, and government.

From 2001 to 2006, he served as Speaker of the House of Representatives — the lower and more powerful chamber of the Fijian Parliament.

He was also the chairman of the Parliamentary Appropriations Committee and of the House Committee.

On January 8, 2007, he was appointed the interim Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade; he was moved to the post of interim Minister for Provincial Development and Multi-Ethnic Affairs in September 2008.

In October, 2008, he became Indigenous Affairs Minister “and effectively Great Council of Chiefs chairman”.

On April 17, 2009, he was appointed vice-president by the military government.

On July 30, 2009, he became acting president after the retirement of President Josefa Iloilo.

On November 5, 2009, he was sworn in as President of Fiji.

Wishing Ratu Epeli the best of being the Speaker to Parliament.

Water carting

CAN the minister concerned please inform our beloved nation how much is spent per month as far as the above is concerned.

We are in the rainy season but the taps remain dry.

Something doesn’t look right.

Security checks

FOR the benefit of outgoing passengers, could the name of the security firm be published together with the CEO’s phone contact.

Airlines allow 50gm toothpaste with personal luggage but it gets seized by security staff members before boarding and there is no garbage bin to dispose all confiscated items.

What happens to all seized items.

I’ve seen bottles of chutney seized.

Forum action

MUCH is being said about actions being taken against the Fiji Exposed Forum Facebook page.

Take it down, take it out and wanting to throw the book at the admin’s faces.

Arehhhh!

Dilettantish, I’d reckon.

Kick’ boxing?

AT first sight of your picture on page 30 in yesterday’s paper, I thought it was a kick boxing match.

Already the area is an occupational hazard.

You have two boxers without proper boxing shoes and there is no sign to indicate the wet floor.

They could just start kicking each other and none of the above would apply.

Types of thieves

I BELIEVE there are two types, those who do it to enrich their lives and others to define theirs.

Journo arrested

JOURNALIST Rizwan Razi, known for his criticism of Pakistan’s government, has been arrested from his home in Lahore (Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty 9/2/19 ).

New Pakistani PM Imran Khan came to power with the promise to bring about change in Pakistan.

So what’s changed?

Is it a case of the more things change the more they remain the same in that historically troubled country?
