LELEAN Memorial School will be hoping to end a 12-year wait for the Vodafone Deans Trophy as the Under-18 side continues its campaign in the semi-final this Saturday, August 15, at HFC Bank Stadium.
The competition has reached another decisive stage where the side will face Nasinu Secondary School in the semi-finals.
Lelean last won the Deans trophy in 2014, and the current U18 side now has the opportunity to revive the school’s campaign for national honours.
With a place in the finals at stake, Lelean will be determined to make the opportunity count and move a step closer to ending the long wait.
The Deans Trophy has long been one of the biggest prizes in Fiji Secondary School rugby, and Lelean has a proud history in the competition having won the Deans Trophy 14 times.
A win against Nasinu would put Lelean into the national final and within a touching distance of the first Deans title since 2014.
The 12-year gap between titles has added significance to the campaign, with the players carrying hopes of a school eager to see the trophy return to Davuilevu.
The U18 side will now turn its attention to the semi-final against Nasinu Secondary School, a side who is also determined to book its place in the final after being denied the title in the last two years.
