Having more Cabinet ministers to look after certain areas of the Prime Minister’s portfolios is a question the head of Government is contemplating.
PM Sitiveni Rabuka told The Fiji Times’ online portal, The Lens@177, that he had performed each ministerial role to the best of his ability over the past year.
“To do a little better for the nation, I may or may not be able to do that because of the time allocation for each of the portfolio,” said Mr Rabuka.
“They are all very important ministries.
“So, we have a choice between having a dedicated minister looking after each of those areas of my portfolio and having a much bigger Cabinet.
“Having three more or four more Cabinet ministers to take over the various sections of the portfolio under the Prime Minister’s office now is the question I will have to ask.”
Mr Rabuka said he could also relocate some of the portfolios to the ministers already in Cabinet.
“I’m already doing that and considering others and whether I do it or not depends on the timing that I feel is right for the redistribution of the portfolios and the change.”
Assistant Minister for Local Government Lenora Qereqeretabua was appointed Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs earlier this year and has represented the PM to overseas missions on a few occasions.
