Amputee Jagdish Kumar of Varoko, Ba, drove himself to the Ba vaccination drive-through, joining  hundreds of residents receiving their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

He said he was not prepared to live through the nightmare of contracting the virus after hearing horror stories of households suffering from this global crisis.

“We have seen what this virus does to people,” he said.

“People are dying and families can’t say goodbye properly to the people they lost to COVID.

“I don’t want to put my family through that.

“I don’t want to be away from my family.”

He said with an underlying sickness, he was more vulnerable if he contracted the virus.

“People like me will suffer more.

“It’s very scary to think about because this virus doesn’t choose the person. Once you get it, you have it and you have to fight it.

“I hope that with this vaccine I can be protected from it.”

The second drive-through for the Ba district attracted more than 100 drivers and their families to the Gujarati grounds over the weekend.

According to the Ministry of Health, Ba remains one of the top districts with a majority of the target population receiving at least one dose of the vaccine.
