FORMER Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica is currently in Australia undergoing a medical procedure on his spine.

His lawyer, Wylie Clarke of Howards Lawyers, informed Magistrate Charles Ratakele of this in explaining Mr Kamikamica’s non-appearance yesterday.

Mr Kamikamica faces a charge of perjury for allegedly making a false statement under oath that he had no involvement in the appointment of Barbara Malimali as FICAC Commissioner.

In the alternative, he faces a charge of giving false information to a public servant for allegedly providing the same information to a Commission of Inquiry.

The case has been adjourned to May 12.

Mr Kamikamica and the lower court are awaiting Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull’s ruling on his application for a permanent stay of his criminal charges.
