KADAVU’S strong first-half effort was not enough to secure victory as Suva fought back to beat the island side 19-10 in round six of the Subrails Marama Cup competition at Suva Grammar School on Saturday.
Kadavu went into halftime break with a 10-7 advantage after putting Suva under pressure in the opening 40 minutes.
However, the home side responded strongly after the break, scoring two unanswered tries while keeping Kadavu scoreless to complete the comeback.
The defeat comes after Kadavu produced an impressive performance in round five, beating Lautoka 41-15 at Churchill Park.
Kadavu coach Etuate Nauro had previously spoken about the difficulties faced by the side, including persistent rain and limited access to suitable training facilities in Kadavu.
“We came through after a lot of challenges and struggles back in Kadavu,” Nauro said.
“The weather was rainy, we couldn’t find a good ground to train on.”
Despite those setbacks, Nauro credited his players for their commitment to the campaign.
“We thank the girls for all the effort they have shown us,” he said.
Captain Ulumila Likubai has also highlighted the significance of representing Kadavu, particularly during the team’s historic home match against Rewa.
