KADAVU gave their home supporters plenty to celebrate on Saturday, recording their first victories of the Skipper Cup season with a clean sweep against Rewa.
Kadavu won all three matches, with the Under-20 side getting the day off to a winning start before the Marama Championship team followed suit.
The senior men then completed the clean sweep with a victory over Rewa, making it a memorable day for the province.
It was the first of four home rounds for Kadavu, giving the young union an encouraging start to its home campaign. Kadavu Rugby Union president Lynda Tabuya described the occasion as a significant moment for the province.
“This is such a historic day for Kadavu,” Tabuya said.
Kadavu’s rugby union was established only about three years ago through the Bose ni Vanua at the Kadavu Provincial Council.
“We only formed not only three years ago, and we were formed by the Bose Vanua at the Kadavu Provincial Council, so we are really provincial based,” she said.
Tabuya said Kadavu was still establishing itself among Fiji’s provincial rugby unions.
“We are the newest kids on the block,” she said.
The first wins of the season were made even more special by the support from the Kadavu community, which turned out to back the teams.
“I just thank the Vanua and the people of Kadavu for rallying the behind the Kadavu team,” Tabuya said.
The three victories provide Kadavu with a much-needed boost after its opening matches and give the players confidence heading into the next round. With three more home rounds to come, Kadavu will now look to build on its first taste of victory and continue growing as a provincial rugby union.
