ALL judicial officials responsible for the handling of exhibits, including Chief Registrar Tomasi Bainivalu, will be questioned over the disappearance of 52 kilograms of cocaine from the High Court exhibit room.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said these would include those responsible for the block, keys and closed-circuit television systems.

“(Just because nothing officially has come from the Chief Registrar’s office regarding the missing drugs) it doesn’t mean that he will not be questioned. Everybody will be questioned,” he said.

Mr Rabuka said investigations should not be limited to judges but should include all personnel working within the judiciary, including clerks, storemen and exhibit keepers.

His comments follow Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu’s statement that the judiciary has the ability to authenticate whether drugs held as exhibits remain drugs, while police do not have the authority to do so because the exhibits are under judicial custody.

Mr Rabuka also questioned who was responsible for the block where the exhibits were kept, who had responsibility for the key and who was responsible for ensuring closed-circuit television systems were operational.
