THE High Court in Lautoka yesterday convicted Daniel Francis Prasad of murdering his wife, Karishma Chaudhary, with a cane knife outside their Nadi home on April 27, 2025.
Justice Aruna Aluthge found Prasad guilty as charged following a trial where nine prosecution witnesses, including a neighbour testified.
The court heard that on the morning of the incident, Prasad confessed to police at the scene, stating he had chopped his wife and felt no regret.
The State established guilt across four stages, including recorded caution interviews and a filmed crime scene reconstruction.
Medical evidence confirmed the fatal blows penetrated the deceased’s skull with substantial force.
During the trial, Prasad claimed his wife was addicted to methamphetamine and was unfaithful, and Justice Aluthge accepted he acted with clear intent to kill.
Prasad has been remanded in custody and will return to court on September 15 for sentencing, with both defence and State lawyers ordered to file submissions before that date.
