Island marks World Heart Day

WORLD Heart Day celebrations were held at Cicia District School on Cicia in Lau yesterday, bringing together students from Cicia District School, Natokalau Primary School, Mabula District School, Tabutoga Village School and Cicia High School, along with communities from across the island.

The celebration began with a march through Tarukua Village, followed by student items and an oratory contest.

Tui Tarakua and Cicia District School headteacher Samuela Wailevu and Reverend Jese Sovatabua were the chief guests.

Also present were Tui Cicia Sakaraia Saubalavu, the Heart Heroes Fiji team, Cicia Health Centre staff, teachers, students, parents and guardians.

The celebration also aimed to raise awareness of various types of heart disease, with particular emphasis on Rheumatic Heart Disease and the importance of prevention and early detection.
