Inaugural regional seminar on ‘Keep Crime Out Of Sports’

AS a nation we believe strongly in sports partnerships.

Minister for Employment, Productivity & Industrial Relations and Youth & Sports Parveen Kumar highlighted said while opening the Council of Europe’s inaugural regional seminar on “Keep Crime Out Of Sports” (KCOSS +) in Nadi this morning.

The seminar has gathered representatives from Pacific sporting associations, including the Fiji Sports Council and Fiji Ministry of Youth and Sports as the country shows interest in signing the European Council’s International Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competition CETS 2015.

“The Fijian Government values this engagement as a great opportunity for us in the Pacific region,” the Mr Kumar.

“We look forward to the capacity building and building networks for policy, implementation, monitoring and evaluation through the enabling set of discussions and dialogue in this important conference,” he said.

Mr Kumar emphasized the Government’s commitment to supporting sports and development as it contributes to social and economic growth, improves health and wellbeing and reduces the incidence and spread of non-communicable diseases.

He also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to a clean sporting industry, with an Anti-Doping and Sports and Physical Activity Policy underway.

Mr Kumar said that these would be completed by mid-2019.
