The International Labour Organization (ILO) conducted a series of online training and awareness seminars with Fijian stakeholders to aid the transition of children to school “with very little or no disruption”.

In a statement issued this week, the ILO said the sessions were conducted in partnership with the Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Ministry.

The ILO said the interactive sessions saw active participation and contributions from Government ministries, employers, workers, labour officers, key stakeholders, civil service organisations, National Council for Persons with Disabilities, Fiji Vocational Technical Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities, Frank Hilton Organisation, Fiji Society for the Blind and faith-based organisations.

Employment and Youth Minister Parveen Kumar said Government “fully supports this series of trainings and awareness programs as it is vital during this COVID-19 pandemic”.

He said the training had helped participants exchange knowledge and find solutions to combat child labour in Fiji.
