Fijians can now access major constitutional documents and information on the ongoing constitutional review through a new online platform launched by the Centre for Democracy & Dialogue (CDD).
The Fiji Constitution Hub was developed to address difficulties in accessing constitutional information as the Government’s proposed Constitution Amendment Bill 2026 progresses through public consultations.
CDD chief executive officer Nilesh Lal said meaningful public participation depended on people having easy access to documents under consideration.
“Fijians should not have to search across multiple websites, contact officials or rely on somebody having a copy of a document in order to access something as important as a proposed constitution,” Mr Lal said.
He cited a recent offer by a deputy prime minister to email copies of the Government draft constitution to interested members of the public as evidence of the need for a central resource.
The hub brings together previous constitutions, the 2013 Constitution, the 2012 Ghai draft, the 2026 Constitution Review Commission (CRC) draft and the Government draft.
It also includes commission reports, legislation, court decisions, historical records, timelines, referendum materials and CDD’s independent constitutional analysis.
Users can explore Fiji’s constitution-making processes, including those that produced the 1997 and 2013 constitutions, and compare them with the ongoing 2026 review.
The platform also provides civic education resources explaining constitutional amendment procedures, referendum processes and key issues arising from the current reform.
“The purpose is not to tell people what to think,” Mr Lal said.
CDD said the hub would be updated as parliamentary documents, legal developments and referendum information became available.
The platform is available at cdd.org.fj/constitution.
