Patients and visitors to Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) are being advised to expect temporary inconveniences as upgrade works get underway at the facility’s East Wing.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that improvements to the Acute Patient Ward are currently in progress, with construction being carried out in stages while the hospital remains fully operational.

Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Penioni Ravunawa, said measures are in place to minimise disruption to patient care.

“These works are being carried out in stages within a fully operational hospital, with measures in place to minimise disruption to patient care and daily hospital activities,” he said.

However,

“Patients and visitors may experience temporary inconveniences such as construction zones, noise, dust, and short-term changes to access around work areas,” Mr Ravunawa said.

The upgrade will be carried out in two phases. The first phase, covering acute medical and surgical ward areas, sluice and storage rooms, will begin on May 11 and is expected to run for about six weeks.

The second phase will commence on June 16 and continue for two months, focusing on bathrooms, toilets, pantry facilities, staff areas and multi-functional rooms.

The upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and patient services at the country’s main referral hospital.
