LEADERS are positive role models who leave behind a legacy. They are team builders and also build confidence and resilience in their team.
These were the words from principal education officer for primary school Marika Baleca to the students of Naqali District School during the school’s induction last month.
“Effective leaders communicated with impact and lead a life of service. Being a leader is about holding doors open for others,” says Mr Baleca.
Head girl Loraine Waqabitu said she was happy to be given the role.
“I’m the first one in my family to be given a role to lead in school. It’s a very proud moment for me and my family,” she said.
Proud parents Mere and Erueli Naivalu said they could not believe the news when their daughter came home and informed them she was going to be the head girl.
“Even though she was a disciplined child, we still could not believe that she was chosen to lead out of the 217 students in her school.
We are blessed to have both our children badged as school leaders this year. Our younger son Apisalome Damuyawa is a senior prefect,” Mrs Naivalu said.
“We are happy the teachers trust them and gave them that leadership role.”
Mrs Naivalu said when her daughter came home to have her consent letter from school signed ,they both sat her down and reminded her about the role.
“We told her the teachers didn’t choose her only to lead they choose her for a reason. So this form you should make us proud. we will do is mould you from home, but shining in school on you.”
Naqali Primary School headteacher Urmila Singh said Lorainne was an outstanding leader and a well-mannered.
“She is an exemplary leader, whatever you tell her to do she will be the first there. She will go out of her way to do it.”
