A six-year-old boy is in a coma after he and three of his siblings were allegedly struck from behind by a four-wheel drive ion Tacirua outside Suva, yesterday morning.
The driver is accused of continuing without stopping to help.
The siblings — three boys and a girl of Banaban descent — were walking to Tacirua Primary School at about 7.30am when they were allegedly hit.
Neighbour Talei Vuetimaiwai who witnessed the incident said: “Out of nowhere this truck came by and hit them from behind.”
She said the youngest child, a Year 1 student, was thrown beneath a parked tow truck. She alleged the truck driver did not stop after hitting the children.
A motorist travelling behind the 4WD stopped and helped transport the injured siblings to hospital. Ms Vuetimaiwai said the parked tow truck was obstructing the area used by pedestrians because there were no footpaths on that section of the road.
“Can the Government please put road humps here and ban cars from parking on the roadside, as there are no footpaths,” she said.
She said the accident was not the first in the area.
