Government approves 2019 public holidays

FIJI will mark 10 public holidays next year as per the dates approved by Government. .

FIJI will mark 10 public holidays come 2019.

This is down by one public holiday compared to the 11 public holidays this year.

The 2019 public holidays was approved by Government through a Gazette Notice dated Thursday, September 2018.

Next year’s confirmed public holidays has excluded the National Sports and Wellness Day which was celebrated on Friday, June 29 earlier this year.

Established in 2014, the National Sports Day was celebrated on June every year.

The purpose of celebrating a National Sports Holiday was to allow all citizens of Fiji to understand the benefits of participating in sporting activities and to celebrate sports as a means of acquiring required physical fitness for a healthy lifestyle.

Here are the 2019 public holidays: 

  1. New Year’s Day – Tuesday, 1 January 2019
  2. Good Friday – Friday, 19 April 2019
  3. Easter Saturday – Saturday, 20 April 2019
  4. Easter Monday – Monday, 22 April 2019
  5. Constitution Day – Monday, 9 September 2019
  6. Fiji Day – Thursday, 10 October 2019
  7. Diwali – Monday, 28 October 2019
  8. Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday – Monday, 11 November 2019
  9. Christmas Day – Wednesday, 25 December 2019
  10. Boxing Day – Thursday, 26 December 2019
