Kevin McCarthy was one of many golfers who took part on the final day of the Swire Shipping 42nd Fiji Senior Golf Tournament, at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva yesterday.
McCarthy, who has played golf for nearly 35 years, was one of the final competitors of the three-day tournament, starting at the 18th hole.
“We’ve been having a great day, we have been very lucky with the weather for three days and we’ve not really had much rain,” McCarthy said.
“The golf hasn’t matched the same standard as the weather, but it’s a lot of fun, great guys and a very great time.”
McCarthy was in high spirits when interviewed, noting the company of fellow golfers who were playing as well.
“The group I’m with has been a very fantastic group, we’re having a lot of fun as well as playing our golf.”
He also urged young people to take up the sport as well.
“Golf is a wonderful sport and we’d certainly like to encourage as many kids come in and play golf,” he mentioned.
“We’ve got a good junior programme coming in here now that allows people to come in and see if this is the game for them, so we’d certainly come in and encourage them to have a try,” he added.
The Swire Shipping sponsored tournament ended yesterday with a prize giving dinner at the Yue Lai Hotel in Flagstaff, Suva.
