The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has dismissed social media claims that employees have been locked out of its mills, saying no rostered worker has been denied entry and mill gates remain open.
In a statement issued today, FSC said reports alleging employees had been refused access to the Corporation’s three mills or that the gates had been locked were false.
The Corporation said the 2026 crushing season’s seasonal employee roster came into effect from 8am today, with staff reporting for duty according to approved shift schedules.
It said employees rostered for the afternoon shift had been instructed to report at 4pm, while those assigned to other shifts were expected to arrive at their designated reporting times.
FSC stressed that workplace access during the crushing season is managed in accordance with shift rosters and occupational health and safety requirements to ensure the safe, orderly and efficient operation of the mills.
The clarification comes amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the start of the 2026 cane crushing season, with cane supply disruptions delaying full milling operations.
