A NEW chapter will open in the 2020 Skipper Cup competition as the round robin games have been extended to 14 rounds compared with the seven rounds earlier this year.

This was revealed by the Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor during the FRU annual general meeting at the Warwick Fiji Resort.

O’Connor said the reason to include an extra seven rounds into the competition was to benefit players gaining exposure and experience.

“We’ve increased the round robin games to 14 rounds compared to seven last season and this is to create more game time for the players and opportunities for the locals to showcase their talents and impress national selectors.

“As the season of provincial rugby kicks off, the Latui and the Drua competitions will also commence and this gives the local players the chance to battle for a position and to be selected into the two teams as well as the Flying Fijians ahead of the June Test and the November Test matches,” said O’Connor.

Meanwhile the Fiji Rugby Union looks forward to a successful year of local and international rugby competition.

“We are looking forward to a successful year of rugby and we ended a memorable one as well.

“The 14 round matches will be home and away games and the Farebrother challenge will take place in between these round robin games,” O’Connor said.
