The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) will grant free education to all students when they come into power.

Party leader Viliame Gavoka made this statement during a recent press conference in Suva.

He was responding to the suspension of student loans for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Dentistry under the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme (TELS).

He said free education would be granted until tertiary level.

“With SODELPA, our policy is very clear, we will provide free education until tertiary education,” he said.

“At the Fiji School of Medicine (FSM), even fourth and fifth-year students are being left alone because they can no longer join toppers.

“From this year, students at FSM will need to pay from their pocket and FSM is not cheap.

“Only a certain proportion of the population can afford the fees at FSM.”

Mr Gavoka said the education of our people should not be compromised.”

He also said there was a need for Government to conduct dialogue on how to keep students who were interested in certain medical studies.
