A seventy-one-year-old fish vendor is calling for stricter security measures at the Suva fish market after losing 48 bundles of fish to thieves early last Saturday.

Jone Waqatuinayau, who has sold fish at the market for 46 years, said it was the first time he had experienced such a devastating loss.

“I am frustrated and hurt,” Mr Waqatuinayau said.

He suspects the theft happened between 5am and 6am on Saturday before the vendors had access to their tables, despite a longstanding rule that the market only opens at 6am.

The elderly vendor has lodged a report at the Totogo Police Station and written to Suva City Council chair Tevita Boseiwaqa.
