A family is homeless in Rakiraki after a fire destroyed their three-bedroom house on Tuesday afternoon.
The house belonged to 49-year-old Atilaite Navuni who was alone at home at the time of the incident.
“My mother was cooking and went outside to get some leaves,” said son Saimone Eveni.
“Since she can’t walk fast, when she returned, the house was fire.
“My mother tried to put out the fire and received burns on her leg and near the neck and is currently in hospital.”
Mr Eveni said the house was not insured.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed the house fire at the Bitutaralagi Settlement.
